What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is Canada's primary system for managing immigration applications from skilled workers. Launched in 2015, it covers three federal economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST). It is an online system where candidates create a profile and are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Why It Matters for Newcomers

Express Entry is the fastest pathway to Canadian permanent residence for skilled workers. Processing times are typically six months or less from receiving an ITA. It is also the pathway through which provinces can nominate candidates via their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), adding 600 CRS points.

How It Works

You create an online profile, receive a CRS score, and enter the Express Entry pool. IRCC conducts regular draws, inviting top-ranked candidates to apply for permanent residence. If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you have 60 days to submit a complete application.

Quick Tip

You can improve your CRS score by taking language tests, gaining additional work experience, or getting a provincial nomination. Even small improvements in language scores can add significant points.
