What is an ITA?

An Invitation to Apply (ITA) is an official notification from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) inviting an Express Entry candidate to submit a full application for permanent residence. Only candidates who receive an ITA can apply for PR through Express Entry.

Why It Matters for Newcomers

Receiving an ITA is the critical milestone in the Express Entry process. It means your CRS score was high enough in a particular draw to qualify. Without an ITA, you cannot submit a permanent residence application through the Express Entry system.

What Happens After You Get an ITA

Once you receive an ITA, you have 60 days to submit your complete application, including supporting documents like police certificates, medical exams, proof of funds, and educational credential assessments. Missing this deadline means your ITA expires and you must re-enter the pool.

Quick Tip

Prepare your documents before you receive the ITA. Gathering police certificates, completing medical exams, and getting your ECA can take weeks, so having everything ready in advance ensures you meet the 60-day deadline.
