What is the PNP?

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to settle in a specific province and who have the skills, education, and work experience needed by that province's economy. Each province runs its own PNP with unique streams and eligibility criteria.

Why It Matters for Newcomers

A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score under Express Entry, virtually guaranteeing an ITA. Even outside Express Entry, PNP streams offer standalone pathways to permanent residence. Many provinces target specific occupations, international graduates, or entrepreneurs.

How It Works

There are two main types of PNP streams: Enhanced (linked to Express Entry, where a nomination adds 600 CRS points) and Base (a separate paper-based application processed outside Express Entry). Each province publishes its own eligibility requirements and may conduct periodic draws.

Quick Tip

Research the specific PNP streams available in the province where you want to live. Some provinces have streams specifically for tech workers, healthcare professionals, or graduates of local institutions, which may align perfectly with your profile.
